In Montana , the law (MCA 33-16-222) requires auto insurance carriers to apply a premium discount to all auto insurance policies where the insured driver is 55 years of age or older and has successfully completed a highway traffic safety program.

 The following Highway Traffic Safety programs have been approved by the Montana Department of Transportation for the purposes of MCA 33-16-222:          

 American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) defensive driving course,

            informally referred to as “55 Alive”.
